Tensor G5, the new chip in Google's Pixel 10, has been met with mixed feedback. While there are numerous features pointing towards an upgrade in the Pixel series, the chip's performance has left something to be desired.According to hands-on benchmarks, CPU performance and GPU numbers have been disappointing. Yet, the Tensor G5 aims to change the game with
Artificial Intelligence (AI) enhancement and an array of improved features.
In an impressive shift in manufacturing, Google has moved away from Samsung and towards TSMC's N3P process led by the expectation of churning out a superior chip. The Tensor G5 is significantly lauded when compared to an iPhone 14, pointing to the robustness of its technical specifications.
The chip was revealed during the unveiling of the Pixel 10 series which will include
triple rear cameras and several AI improvements. Surprisingly, Tensor has been used beyond the realms of mobile phone tech, with advancements seen in quantum computing and even
self-driving autonomous vehicles.
Despite this, there are concerns about the chip's computational prowess. Benchmarks showed shortcomings against flagship rivals. However, Tensor, a Silicon valley-startup, unveiled the world's first personal autonomous vehicle.
On the flipside, attempts to beat other leading processors in the market have been lauded, but numerous benchmark tests suggest the chip still trails behind Snapdragon SoCs. The future seems uncertain, but Tensor seems committed to pushing boundaries of innovation.
