There's a growing focus on decentralized identities in the cryptocurrency market outlined in recent reports. The GENIUS Act could potentially bring new regulation to crypto, and Divine Research has begun issuing unbacked cryptocurrency loans using Sam Altman’s World ID. Altman's World Network and Razer are joining forces to deal with gaming's bot problem. Their tool, World ID, is being heralded as a likely pioneer in digital identities. The identity system is also presenting itself as a competitor to biometric models and is poised to be forwarded in Argentina.
However, World ID has not managed to avoid controversy, with Indonesia halting the World project following suspicious activity and the system being used for identity theft. Despite this, World ID has also found adoptions in places such as Malaysia and its use has been allowed for companies and governments.
Blockchain-based IDs are becoming more widespread, with Buenos Aires also introducing a blockchain-based ID for its 3.6M residents and other major players in the ID space like Humanity Protocol and MicroStrategy announcing significant funding rounds and initiatives. Conceptional alternatives such as ZK-proofs are being suggested for Europe’s digital ID regulations. All of these developments contribute to the strengthening narrative of anonymized, controlled, and secure digital identity in the crypto context.
