DAI stablecoin, cementing its position as the third-largest stablecoin globally.
MakerDAO, the creator of DAI, has rebranded to
Sky and launched a new stablecoin and a governance token. Sky has also announced a functionality that allows it to freeze its new stablecoin. The DAI stablecoin continues to function regularly after the rebrand, although it experienced a $490 million surge in just five days. Rumors circulate about the delisting of DAI on Coinbase, and there is a continuous debate surrounding the perceived risks associated with DAI.
Coinbase decided to delist other stablecoins, including USDT, PAX, PYUSD, but there is no clear decision on DAI yet. A new decentralized stablecoin to replace DAI, dubbed
PureDai, has been announced. Meanwhile, Sky has faced backlash over its stablecoin 'freeze function', and the decision making around it could be decentralized. It's worth noting that a hacker has managed to steal $55m worth of DAI in a phishing attack.
