Ethena's USDe has outperformed DAI to become the 3rd-largest stablecoin. This follows The Dai Lo's acquisition of Fractal Network.
MakerDAO, the organization behind DAI, has rebranded to Sky and has revealed a new
stablecoin and
governance token. This shift has caused controversy in certain segments of the crypto community, with
Gnosis debating stablecoin options amid concerns over MakerDAO's shift. The Ethereum foundation has also been utilizing DAI, offloading 100 ETH for 334k DAI in a recent purchase.
MakerDAO's ambitious plans were exposed amidst a phishing attack that duped a whale out of $55M of DAI. Various aspects of MakerDAO's strategy are under scrutiny, including its controversial rebrand to Sky and proposal to move to a 'freeze function' on its new stablecoin. The organization has made a move to meet the DAI demand, indicating plans for 1 MKR token to convert into 24,000 NGT tokens. Solana is now part of the
stablecoin race with Sky's deployment.
A dramatic incident saw $45M DAI transferred and swapped for ETH via the Nomad Bridge. Other notable events include a phishing attack draining $55M from a crypto whale's wallet and Maker deciding to rebrand as Sky ahead of its USDS stablecoin launch.
Sky recently launched its USDS stablecoin on Solana and confirmed an endgame strategy to displace Tether.
