The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has been heavily focused on commemorative hryvnia coins and notes, many of them marking important historical events or figures. Modern
Ukrainian coins have become popular collector's items. Some of the most notable include the
Black Stork coin, coins honoring the
Medical Branch of Ukraineβs Armed Forces, and Ukrainian and Polish jointly issued sets. Coins acknowledging the country's battle for independence, celebrating symbols of Christmas, and tributes like the
\"Unity Saves the World\" all form a part of the NBU's commemorative collection.
Kuna, the Ukrainian crypto exchange, introduced new features but also faced restrictions amid the volatile economic climate.
Binance, too, recommended P2P exchanges as hryvnia use got suspended on crypto platforms. Despite attempts to limit usage, Ukraine has seen Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether trading at a noteworthy premium in hryvnia.
Tascombank and other commercial banks are exploring digital currencies based on Stellar. New regulations proposed a
crypto profits tax, and suspicious transactions of over $1,200 are targeted for tracking. Several recently introduced hryvnia coins will replace old banknotes. The NBU aims to withdraw coins and banknotes designed before 2003. Meanwhile, donation campaigns using crypto assets to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine gained traction. The recent surge in Ruble-bitcoin volumes has also supplemented the use case for crypto in the region.
