Cryptocurrency Calamity - Terra Coin's Rough Ride
Terra Coin, also known as Luna, experienced massive downturns. Notably, crypto mogul Do Kwon faced extradition to the US after his $40+ billion stablecoin collapsed. Further, Terraform Labs (founded by Kwon) was set to open a loss claims portal while also facing a $123 million SEC settlement shortly after Terra and Luna's collapse. Charges had also been pressed on Jump Crypto Subsidiary for alleged manipulation of Terra Luna UST peg. As a result of these circumstances, Luna's volume fluctuated drastically between 2019 and 2022. Despite the setbacks, Binance backed Terra Luna Classic's upgrade, leading to speculation of a LUNC rally. Even with token burn, it was unclear whether Terra Luna could sustain its price surge. After dropping significantly, Terra Luna Classic experienced a revival on Binance with the price expected to surge, especially with the burn of 1.34b tokens. In response to this, the crypto fear index reached record heights. Amid all these, Kwon plead not guilty to US charges over the Luna/UST crash. The possibility of Terra Luna Classic partnering with Cardano was also anticipated. Sonic's reveal of plans for a new Algorithmic Stablecoin with 23% yield raised eyebrows due to Terra-Luna's fallout. While the post-collapse developments led to mixed signals for LUNC, the price was at risk despite Terra Classic stepping up the burn rate and hitting a 400b milestone.
