Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple Inc., and
YouTube have been in a legal battle involving a Bitcoin scam. Wozniak has successfully won multiple rounds against YouTube, allowing his lawsuit to proceed. The case centers around fraudulent videos promoting
crypto scams using fake endorsements from Wozniak. Similarly, videos featuring 'deepfake' versions of Elon Musk promoting crypto scams have also flooded YouTube, attempting to trick viewers into parting with their Bitcoin. Notably, AI-generated versions of Musk were utilized to steal Bitcoin from viewers via live streams.
Beyond scams, the crypto conversation on YouTube also includes high-level analysis and predictions about the market. For example, analyst Benjamin Cowen suggests the industry may undergo a significant trend shift and predicts a 2017-style parabolic rally. Similarly, Crypto Influencer Kevin Svenson projects Bitcoin reaching $90,000 sooner rather than later.
Outside of financial projections, YouTube has played host to educational content and intriguing revelations about Bitcoin. During the COPA trial, Craig Wright admitted to editing the Bitcoin White Paper. Furthermore, educational channels and influencers, such as Coin Bureauβs YouTuber Guy Turner, have provided insight on the crypto market for many viewers.
However, YouTube's relationship with crypto is not all positive. YouTube has faced immense criticism for failing to regulate scams and fraudulent promotions on their platform. As a result, they have been targeted for alleged complicity in scams involving Bitcoin.
